Slow Explosions

In 1980, Gwen K. Vroomen left her monotonous life in Dearborn, Michigan, after a spontaneous decision at a local bar — a dart thrown at a world map pointed her toward Goa, India. Months later, she found herself celebrating Hindu New Year in a tea garden high in the hills of Kerala, fireworks illuminating the night below. She described the experience as being “resuscitated by color, redeemed by the vibrant unknown.” Her journey through night markets, river floats, and moped rides inspired a generation of seekers yearning to escape the ordinary and embrace the extraordinary.
